Yeliz Azmak- Stevens is the face of Bimaks NZ Ltd, who has worked in the water treatment industry for over 25 years in New Zealand and overseas. We have never used any treatment tablets in our fan coil units before, why do we need them now?
Based on AS/NZS 3666 and the HVAC Hygiene Best Practice Guideline, which has been modified for New Zealand by IRHACE, condensation pans are identified as areas of risk for biological contamination, including bacterial and fungal (mold) contamination. There has also been a reported outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in China that was traced back to fan coil units, resulting in infections of L. pneumophila and multocida, with 108 people falling ill.

How are Maks Fan Coil Tablets any different than other tablets in the market?
Maks Fan Coil Tablets are approximately 20 to 40 times stronger than any other tablets on the market, depending on the tablet size used. They are designed for slow release, allowing them to remain effective in the system for a significantly longer period, ranging from 3 to 6 months. In contrast, other tablets dissolve completely within 30 minutes.

I understand the importance of treating condensation pans as they ultimately affect the air quality occupants are exposed to but is it going to cost me a lot of money?
No. Cost of treatment could be as low as $1 per month per unit. The aim is to keep the systems clean and free of biological contamination which in return will minimize the number of call-outs and damage to ceilings and furnishings due to blocked drains.
